 ABOUT Otherly Pursuits:

Hi, my name is Jeanette Nkwate. I'm a journalist and trends expert by trade, and Otherly Pursuits is my chance to write about things that I like, love and dislike.

I like fun and (what some would call) frivolous things like fashion, food and fitness, but it doesn't mean that I won't throw in discussions about race, feminism, art and culture and any other topic that tickles my fancy.

So what can you expect from me? I love fitness: I ran my first 10km last year and hope to challenge myself next year with another race. I've also started practising yoga – even though I still struggle with inversions! And after a few short work visits to Belo Horizonte, I set myself the task of learning Brazilian Portuguese (I'm currently taking a beginner's course at a London college).

But fashion has been my long term jam: I graduated from LCF with a first class BA Hons degree in Fashion Promotion, specialising in Journalism. During my degree I also explored cultural studies, writing my dissertation on the lack of black female representation in women's magazines and so, intersectionality continues to be a close subject to my heart. FYI: if you haven't guessed already the blog title is a pun...

I cut my teeth as an intern, assisting the fashion/features teams at The Daily Express, Take a Break and Sugar Magazine. After that I moved on to trends – travelling the global for trade shows and international catwalks and gaining five years worth of trends, editing and writing experience.
